Terje is a Norwegian dialectal form of the Old Norse name Torgeir with the elements 'þórr' (thunder-god Tor/Thor) and 'geirr' (spear).

The name is mainly used in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and the northern part of Germany.

Ibsen wrote a poem "Terje Vigen" (1860)
