Re: Viivi, Finnish
I have a Swedish friend called Vivi and it comes from Viveka. Is it a hangover from when the Swedes used to govern Finnland?Liam

I don`t think so. Finnish and swedish names have many similarities but it doesn`t mean that they wouldn`t have been influenced by other languages. And Viivi is a quite new name in Finland. Probably it hasn`t even been used before the mid 1900s.

I would like to add that Finland became a part of Russia in 1809. After that swedish traditions remained but didn`t have as much effect on finnish culture as before the year 1809.
