Kayala
KAYALA was my maiden name. My grandfather was an immigrant from Finland in the early 1900's. The original spelling is Kaijala. The story is that the American immigration personnel changed the ij to a y or thought that is what the spelling of the name.
There was a family of KAIJALA who immigranted to Minnesota. There are various spellings within the decendents to include KAYLA KARJALA, and Kayala. I don't know what the word means, but I do know that in Finland the land of the family who owned the land is how the names were derived. Very interesting. If anyone is interested in this family's history, I would be interested in sharing and finding out more.
