In English C followed by a front vowel is pronounced /s/, but in Greek the consonant is usually /k/.

Many "K" sounds found in Greek words were changed to soft C's when Latinized and Aglicized. Originally, the name of the sorceress in the Odyssey was spelled, in the Latin alphabet, Kirke (KIRR-kee or KEER-kee). However, many English speakers pronounce the name SIR-kee, like "circle."

Does anyone know if the name Circe is still given in either Greece or elsewhere today? And if so, how would a Greek pronounce it today?
