Was cuious to see if anyone had some new info on this name. I had heard the story of it being Swedish, as Tarkyn Lockyer from collingwood mum said. But after reading that the person from sweeden had never heard of it, makes me even more curious. We named our son Tarkyn after the footy player!

I think Tarkyn is a Variation of Tarquin.
Thats from Latin origin.
It´s a Roman clan name: the name of two Etruscan kings of early pre-republican Rome (about fifth century AD). The son of the last king caused the famous Rape of Lucretia, the Roman matron who killed herself rather than live in shame. This event led to the downfall of the Tarquins and the change of elected consuls to rule Rome instead. It has been depicted in poetry and drama in various languages.

I recall an character called Tarquin-Fintim-Limbim-Whimbim-Lim Bus Stop-F'Tang-F'Tang-Olé-Biscuit-Barrel in an old Monty Python skit :)
