What does this name mean
Researching my Hungarian ancestors. I can not seem to find any information on this name. I have seen it spelled three ways. It applies to the same person. JACUL, JACENT, JACZINT. I thought that it might possibly be a varation of the male version of JESSE. This is the middle name of my grandfather Istvan(Steven). I have no documents in Hungarian where his name would be in Hungarian. He was born in the USA but my great grandparents were first generation Magyar Hungarians to America. I have no living relatives alive that could answer this for me.

Jacent or Jaczint would be Hungarian forms of Hyacinth, a name from ancient Greek legend which was later the name of several early Christian saints. Though in English speaking countries Hyacinth has been thought of as primarily a female name since the vogue for flower names in the 19th century, it was originally a male name and the forms of it in most other European languages are still primarily given to males.
