If you have to ask, I would say you are not an Arab, though your given name is from the Arabic language.
According to Digest of Muslim Names by Fatimah Suzanne Al Ja'fari, Mahfuz is an Arabic name meaning "protected, safe", given with the implication that the child will be protected by God.
Mahfuz is used as a surname as well as a given name in the Arabic word. Naguib Mahfouz is an Egyptian novelist who won the 1988 Nobel Prize in literature. (Mahfuz and Mahfouz are simply alternate ways of spelling in English the same Arabic name.)
