Where did you find this? Do you know for sure that this was the spelling?
There is an Irish surname Geaghan which is a form of the older Geoghegan, which according to Hanks and Hodges' A Dictionary of Surnames may go back to a Gaelic personal name which meant "horseman". Could that be the name you are thinking of?
