corlis
My father and his father were both named Corlis and I have yet to be able to find out why or the origins of the name. They don't appear to be named after anyone else in the family so I am stumped. Any knowledge about the name origin would be appreciated.

Corlis is an English surname. I googled Corlis, and according to some baby name sites (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Corliss and http://www.babynames.com/name/CORLISS), it is of Old English origin and means benevolent, cheery, happy, carefree, etc. (assuming Corlis is a variant of Corliss). Based on that meaning, I'd guess it came from the same Old English word as careless, carléas (looked up in dictionary).
