Behind the Name: Message: "History of Lorelei?"

I really like the name Lorelei, but I'm not crazy about the association with the mythological Siren leading sailors to their watery graves. Does anyone know if there is another definition or history behind the name that precedes this tragic tale?

Also, would you consider using a name that you really liked for its appearance and sound even though the definition/history wasn't favorable? How many people (other than us name lovers) do you think would even be familar with the association?
