Hmm...It seems to make sense that the name would pass through France becoming Cateline, to England becoming Kathleen, and then reach Ireland finally becoming Caitlin. But prehaps you're right ;)

Kathleen is the Anglicized form of Caitlín, which is the Irish form of Cateline. Many Irish names have been Anglicized, like Shawn for Seán, Kiera for Ciara, Rory for Ruaidhrí, etc.
