How to pronounce Riekki?
Hi!
I have a Swedish penpal named Riekki. He will come and visit me soon and I'd like to pronounce his name right. This name has Finnish origins, but I'd like to know how do Swedish people pronounce it. Is it like the American Ricky or else?
Please help!

Hi verlorene Seele,In Swedish, Riekki would be pronounced almost like in Finnish, but without the long consonant as there are no long consonants in Swedish. The pronunciation would be like this:Swedish: REE-eh-kee
Finnish: REE-eh-'-kee (' = small pause)It doesn't sound like Ricky because the first i is long, the e is pronounced and the R is rolled. The stress is on the first syllable.By the way, Riekki is a Finnish form of the Swedish name Fredrik (originally German: Friedrich )Regards, Satu
