Re: Navi
in reply to a message by Megan
Since this is the name of a fictional character, the writers of the program may not have been completely accurate in choosing it. But perhaps they meant Navi to be a form of the Persian names Nave or Naved/Naveed. According to The Complete Book of Muslim & Parsi Names by Maneka Gandhi & Ozair Husain, Nave is a Persian name meaning "newness, freshness, novelty", and Naved is a Persian name meaning "reward, promise, good news, glad tidings." According to A Dictionary of Muslim Names by Salahuddin Ahmed, Naveed is a Persian name meaning "good new, glad tidings". Since in the storyline the son of this character is called Behrooz, and Behrooz is a Persian name, it makes some sense that the writers of the show might have also chosen a Persian name for his father.

Thanks! Could it be considered a NN then for Naveed?

It would seem logical that in the USA Navi might be a pet form of Naveed, but I don't know if that would work back in Iran.
