The real meaning of my name....
Hello!!! My name is Sahar and I want to ask something.
I really like this site, because it's very intersting, and here I can to find names meanings.
But, it's not the real-only-meaning of name.
for example, my name. SAHAR
Gender: Feminine
Usage: Arabic, Iranian
Other Scripts: سحر (Arabic)
Means "dawn" in Arabic. First, I know Arbic, and the meaning of SAHAR(سهر-!!!-) in Arbic is "moon". And; this name isn't just Arbic.
The name came from the word "month"(شهر) in Arbic. Also, Sahar(סַּהַר -not the only way to write this... But it's good enough) is a Hebrew name and it means "Moon".In the comments for SAHAR worte somebody "SAHAR is a Persian name meaning the dawn..." so it's could be, too.SO, pleas, look for the real meaning of the names, and not put the first one as the only.

Actually...(ETA)...the moon is "al-qamr"; I looked it up just to be absolutely sure there weren't any other listings under "moon", and I found nothing other than al-qamr and yahlum (which I have never heard before). What dialect do you speak?I looked up Sahar (with both a sin and a sad) and neither of them listed "moon" as a possible definition; however, Sahar with a sin did say that "Sahar" is "the time before dawn."*Edit*I was just thinking, perhaps "sahar" as "moon" is not said like the name Sahar; in Aramaic, we say "sara" (saw-raw, with a flipped r and even syllabic emphasis) for moon; it's not too far-fetched to think that it could be pronounced "sahra" in other regions. How would you pronounce Sahar if you were referring to the moon?

If you have comments on the name, mention it to Mike C or add it to the list.

It's no what I did, it was a looooong example of my name, and it was my name just because I'm know what it's meaning and sure about it and here the meaning it's another. What I ask was: What is my name real meaning, and how the people who wrote it decided what it's the real meaning of the name and that it's the only one...?It wasn't just for my name... Are you understand? =]

It would seem from the comments by "Auriel" under Sahar that the Arabic name which means "moon" is normally written as Shahar in English.

First, it's Shachar. [my sister name =)]
Second, Shachar means "dawn" in English.
