In Danish "tre" means three.

Someone might have said this already, but I think it's from the Spanish word for three, "tres".

The only Tre I can think of is short for Cornish names like Trevelysn and Trethowan - which are surnames sometimes used as first names.
Tre is Cornish for "homestead" or "settlement".
But somehow I don't think this is the Tre you have in mind.

I've seen it spelled Trey, and it means 3. I've often heard of it being used when the boy is the third child, or the third son.

thanks GreenBinderGirl and mother2B,
could the name also be short for a female vietnamese or japanese name?

Japanese, no. As I've already stated, it is impossible for "Tre" to be Japanese.

ok claudia but what about a vietnamese name? well i didn't meant maybe tre is a short for name in japanese. i don't think tre could be a japanese name either but maybe it's short for something in japanese.

A boy in my class is called Tre; it's short for Alvantre. I've never heard it on a girl before. :o
