Origin of Elna?
If anyone has any info. on the name Elna, please say so. I think it might be Basque.

Afrikaans-speaking South Africans have a long tradition of using family names; since this can lead to several cousins identically named, they've developed some quite creative merger names. Elna can be one, from the popular combination of El-izabeth and Hele-na.The meaning, other than: "Not identical with her cousins but still remembering Granny", would be Elizabeth + Helena.It's also a brand of sewing machine.

In Sweden, Elna is an old nickname for Helena.
