Afrikaans-speaking South Africans have a long tradition of using family names; since this can lead to several cousins identically named, they've developed some quite creative merger names. Elna can be one, from the popular combination of El-izabeth and Hele-na.

In Sweden, Elna is an old nickname for Helena.

I also speculate that perhaps Elna could be an alternate form of Elma. But that's just my own speculation.
