I think it's a variant of the popular name Kayla.

Can you please stop GUESSING on the FACTS boardYou've been told repeatedly that this board is for FACTS only, an occasional educated guess is allowed, but this is not for everyone to just post their best guess.

Well, sorta. If I'm posting a name here, I want to hear all guesses, either educated or intuitive. It could well be a creative spelling of Kayla with the pronunciation based on, say, Ceridwen, especially since the OP hasn't offered any info about the name bearer. Maybe the OP never thought of that and it turns out to be true. But I've got to say, to bananarama: most of the rest of your posts here lately do seem pretty frivolous. Frivolity is sternly discouraged. You need to be more ridiculous, if you can't appear authoritative and you aren't carrying a wooden spoon.

You can ask for uneducated guesses on the opinions boardThere's the place to ask "how would you pronounce this name?" and things like that.

I agree but....I agree with you but making a suggestion should be allowed. If I say that I think it's a Turkish name it's not a fact, however it might help the person to get more information about the name (to look at Turkish baby name sites etc). I know for sure that Ceylin is Turkish so suggesting to look up Ceyla at a Turkish site might help her.

For me that would fall more under educated guessesIf you know enough about Turkish names that you can see this being Turkish, I don't have a problem with it, but randomly guessing isn't helping. Just imagine what a thread would look like if 12 people post their random guess, it would be hard for the person to sort out the more educated guesses or fact and the people that have no clue and just give their best guess.

I just think it looks made-up. That's why I put in my guess.

We don't care what you think. My gosh, how many times must this be explained to you? This is a facts' board. This is not for opinions, guesses or anything else. We don't care what you think. We don't care about what interests you. We don't care if you're part Albanian or related to Micky Mouse or anything else. We care about Facts. If you cannot understand stay off the board. I've seen someone banned from the site for doing exactly what you're doing and posting random guesses and what-not on this board and refusing to stop. Especially on this board. So if you want to get considered for banning, keep it up.

Well, please don't guess, unless you have some grounds to base your guesses on. List sources if you have them or explain why you think something when you are making an educated guess. Otherwise, guess on the opinions board, because if everyone starts guessing here, it won't be a 'facts board' much longer. Feel free to guess on the opinions board, people do ask there about things like pronunciations etc, then they are asking for your best guess, but not here. For the record, I have nothing against you or your posts, but I'd like to see the standards of this facts board maintained. Thanks

I completely agree with thatIt is not the same a guess of someone with a good knowledge of onomastics, linguistics or some language(s) that a guess of any person about a field in which he/she is not trained (academically, by experience, etc.).

umCeyla wouldn't even be pronounced the same as Kayla. In English, C followed by E makes a soft C, not a hard one.

no...I think it's a Turkish name. At least Ceylin is. I think it's pronounced Tshay-la. I would look at a Turkish baby name site or ask someone from Turkey to find the meaning. Ceylin is a variant of Celine.
