Re: Need help finding the meaning and origin of Ossiah
in reply to a message by layne
Where did you find this name? I can only find eight different instances in the US Census of persons listed as Ossiah, and it turns out on further investigation that at least one of those was really a mistake for Ossian. It's a very, very rare name and without further information it looks to me like the best guess is that it's either a mistake or deliberate alteration of Biblical names like Uzziah and Isaiah.

Thanks for the information. Lol actually my first 2 children are named marissa and nadia and to stay in alphabetical order my husband suggested the name origionally joking because my cousin recently named her son Messiah. I hadn't heard it before and I liked the sound of the name...so that was how that name came about for us

Well, then, your husband probably heard it as one of the references to Obama and didn't realize that it has never been a name with any history of real use to speak of. :)Obadiah, Omri, and Ozni might be some Old Testament male names starting with O you could consider.

Actually...I have actually heard this used as a name -- a former teacher's son -- and apparently it was a name that had been in use for quite some time in his wife's family. The teacher was a bit eccentric, and I greatly enjoyed his class.
