I just discovered the singer BIC Runga from New Zealand, and was wondering where her first name derives from. Her mother seems to be Chinese. Any ideas?

Her mother is Chinese Malay and her father is Maori, I think. I've read that Bic means "jade" and that it sounds like "peck".
