Is it a surname that was passed down, that ended up being his first name? Like Keenan, my mom's last name is Keenan. It was passed down to generations, although that isn't my name is any sort.

Its his first name...It was never a surname in his family, perhaps it is a surname, but no one in his family had it, unless its before our records, which go back really far. I just don't have access to them right now. I believe my husband was the third to have this name, his grandfather was before him, and i think his grandfathers uncle was the first.
