My sister's name is Irby. She was named for her grandmother whose name was Irby Boone. They are of German descent, but I they were from Texas.

Please help me figure this one out?

The name Irby isn't German.

There is are some place names Irby in Great Britain. The name is Old Norse and means "Irish settlement".

I don't know if it's at all relevant, but Irby upon Humber is the name of a small village near where I live, in the North of England
