Axel is the Scandinavian form of the Absalom. In the Bible (2 Samuel), Absalom was the 3rd son of King David who rebelled against his father and was killed fleeing when his hair was caught in an oak tree, much to his father's grief. The probable meaning of Absalom is 'father of peace'.
Joyce bores me to tears so any research there you're on your own ;o)
