Re: Alternate spelling of a name
If you mean you want Malyssa added to this site, you can simply use the "Submit a Name" link below:http://www.behindthename.com/submit/submit.phpIt may be many months before the name is added, however, as the owner of this site does it in his spare time and he gets hundreds of suggestions for additions every year.

I wonder how appropriate is to admit a name with changed spelling just because somebody wants it to be unique. In India, many actors have changed English spellings of their names on the advice of numerologists to become sucessful.

This is obviously a decision for Mike Campbell to make. Personally I think any name which has been the legal name of a real person would be appropriate to include on the site. And just because the original poster thinks Malyssa is a "unique" spelling doesn't mean that it really is. It's actually a fairly logical respelling, and it's not hard to find other examples through Google:http://www.facebook.com/malypoohttp://www.linkedin.com/pub/malyssa-lyles/b/908/93bhttp://www.modelmayhem.com/1078586http://www.linkedin.com/pub/malyssa-woodward/6/769/432http://www.meetup.com/members/8921938/etc. :)

Thanks for presenting your opinion. My concern was regarding the experiment people do with names. I am not aware how English names are formed, but most of the Indian names have their grammatical structure and any experiment with them could change their meaning or renders them meaningless at all. I wonder if the same happens with names in some other languages too.

Thanks everyone! The main thing I was worried about was that it was so unique it would have to be listed as a seperate name. I never intended that at all! I just wanted it to be an alternate spelling of Melissa... And since I wasn't the only one to use it for a name, I guess it's just not that unusual. Just pretty rare...And I'm certain that other languages have the same quirks that the Indian ones do. I know for a face that one has to be very careful with Native American names. That's the main reason that babies and children are given such simple names until they come of age. It gives time and thought into the adult name so that it will fit the person and not screw up the meaning....Anyway... I just wanted to say thanks...Gypsy
