Subject: Name meanings: Roi/Roy

According to this site, the name ROI could either be a Galician short form of RODRIGO or mean "my shepherd" in Hebrew. According to this site, ROY is derived from Gaelic ruadh meaning "red".

Those familiar with French should also know another meaning for ROI and ROY. The French word "roi" (pronounced "rwa") means "king" (which is found in the word "royal"). One example of this name being used with the French pronounciation is in former professional hockey player Patrick Roy, who is considered by many hockey fans as the best goalkeeper in NHL history.
