Ivayla is right. Lenka cannot mean illumination in Slavic. It is just a diminutive of Elena (Helena).

It is indeed Slavic...and beata is right - Lenka is a diminutive form of Elena, which is a variantion of Helen. I believe the Helen connection caused Larissa to believe it means "illumination", since that is the meaning some sites give for Helen/Elena.

Hi, Tanita!
TANITA is a fairly recent coinage but of ancient origin:
"Tanit" or actually "Tinnit" was the name of a Phoenician goddess. She was the main goddess of the City of Carthago, also called upon for fertility. Her name could possibly mean "powerful" but this is just a guess (taken from a doubtful Hebrew word).
Others however consider TANITA an elaboration on Tana or Tanja (both pet forms of the Russian TATJANA > TATIUS).

My wife and I really like the name Tana (New Zealand All Blacks Captain). However we have been told that the name is a girl's name and not a boys name. Could you help settle this dispute before we give our son a girls name.many thanksian
