Alzora
I recently learned that my great-great grandmother had a sister by the name of Alzora. I can't seem to find any information on its origin. Any help would be appreciated!

My grandmother's name was Alzora Williams Banks. Born around 1887 and lived in Dawson Ga. Her father's name was John "Bull" Williams. Her husband's name was John Banks.

Was her last name Grubbs? I have a great-great grandmother by that name. She married a John Jennings I think? Grubbs is English though, so it's probably not the same person, but maybe! I've never heard of that name either, and I'm intrigued.

Do you know anything about their ancestry? Assuming it wasn't invented by her parents, it could be related to Alzira or even Zora.

All I know is that she was born in the 1860s in Arkansas, her father has a German surname but was also born in Arkansas, and her mother was Cherokee. Her sisters were named Ellen, Amelia, and Sarah Ann.

AlzoraMy Grandmother's name was Minnie Alzora (Williams) Abbott.
My Mother's name was Chloie Alzora (Abbott) Talley, and my daughter's middle name is Alzora.
The name Alzora came from our Cherokee side.
My Great Grandmother was Mary Ann (Burns) Williams, and she and her family lived in Winston County, Alabama.

It's a really different name from her sisters. Could it possibly be a family surname?

Not sureThat's as far back in the tree as I know. I did think it had to come from somewhere because it's so different. I'd wonder why they'd use pretty plain names and then just make one up.

Could it be one of these names like Almanzo?
It's disputed whether it is from this http://www.behindthename.com/submit/view.php?name=almanzo or from that http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Almanzo
Al Mansur means "the victorious".
Zo(a)ra in Arabic means flower or brilliant.
