I'm wishing to use this name-- for which the literal translation is 'Rain Cloud'-- on a charater of mine. She is a Chinese female, born in 1994. I am wondering whether or not this name would be appropriate to use on her.

Is Yuyun a name that you have seen in use on an actual Chinese person? If it is, I don't see why it wouldn't be appropriate. If it's just a dictionary word you found, then you need to ask a Chinese speaker or Chinese names expert (I'm not sure we have one here) how it sounds as a name.

Ditto, or google it and see if there are any people with the name.
