I'm trying to find the city or town in Sweden where a great-grandmother was born. Her name, as far as I can tell, was
Anna Sjesdt(1857 - 1925). She was born in Sweden near "Ghutenburg" (possibly Gothenburg or Goteborg?). Upon arriving in the New Bedford area of the United States, the Sjesdt name was changed to "
Chester" to make it easier for English-speaking Americans to pronounce.
Problem is, "Sjesdt" does not appear to be a Swedish surname -- at least, not a common one. If this is not the correct spelling of my great-grandmother's name, then what would be the closest match?
