Re: Meaning and origin of the Name Yaretzi
in reply to a message by Rene
I sorta knew it wasn't nahuatl since my vague basic knowledge didn't seem to feel to me that it would be a nahuatl sounding name. I did check sites from Mexico with Aztec centric themes/topics and the name does not appear there. Thanks for the post and confirming that. Checking Facebook, there a good number of ladies named "Yaretzi". So I am not alone. ;)

It’s Aztec (nahuatl) for “Love of my Life”Love = tlazotlalitztli
blood= EtztliTla-etztli/ (spanishized as yaretzi)= literally translates to “Amor de mi sangre” love of my blood.Literally translates doesn’t make much sense but the context and significance of blood in Nahuatl/indigenous culture is seen as an offering and connection to tonantzin our mother earth. Blood is the essence of life.So amor de mi sangre can be interpreted better in English as “Love of my life”
