Valmai (and its variants, Valmae, Valmay, Valmaye and Valmaie) were very popular in Australia in and around the 1930s. Most baby name sites give its origin as Welsh and its meaning as "Spring Flower". Can anyone confirm or deny that origin & meaning?

Here in South Africa it seems to have been used at around the same time; my sister-in-law Valerie was almost a Valmai (or perhaps a Valmae) and she was born to Afrikaans-speaking parents in 1940. I've met a few others as well, but not many.
