I read the origin of the name HITLER when I was a boy in a German youth yearbook edition about 1938, probably “Der gute Kamerad”, less probably “Das neue Universum”. Hitler is a contraction of Hütteler (Huetteler). Huette is a hut (small house), thus Huetteler is a builder of huts
