Llandel
Yesterday I looked up the name Yandel because it currently ranks in the Top 1000 US names and saw that this is the stage name of Llandel Veguilla Malavé Salazar, a musician from Puerto Rico.I then tried to find out where the name Llandel comes from. The double-L certainly looks Spanish, no surprise for somebody from Puerto Rico, but I was not able to find it as a Spanish name.Any ideas?

Llandel is probably just a spelling variant of Yandel. LL in Latin America is frequently pronounced as a y as in "yes", so it's probably not too different in Puerto Rico.

Ok, thanks, although it would be probably the other way round - the given name of Llandel came before the stage name Yandel in the case of this musician.Unfortunately this does tell us something about the origin and/or meaning of Llandel which would interest me most.

Both Llandel and Yandel are probably Latin American respellings of Jandel or Jahndel, which are among the many different German diminutives of Johann (John). I don't know how Jandel came to be used in Latin America, but the use of Johan also shows that Puerto Rican parents have adopted other German forms.
