Gies is an alternate vorm of the Dutch name Gijs. The pronounciation is "Gees".

The resulting hits of a Google search for "Gies Gijsbert" seem to indicate that Gies is a short form of the Dutch name Gijsbert.

Not sure about the pronounciation. If this was German instead of Dutch the "e" would probably be silent and just make the "i" somewhat longer.
