The -oe- is a short, quick sound, as in English . But the -s ending is the important bit: it makes an sound, NOT a sound.

Indeed she does! Thank you ... I tried to use those pointy-bracket things, but clearly they and their contents get eaten by the ghost in the machine.Will do better next time.

Would that be pronounce Low-ez? That would seem fairly faithful to the Dutch language.
