Bellamy
Lately I've been stuck on Bellamy. First of all is it a boy or a girl name? I only like it for a girl. Also, what is the origin of the name and/or meaning? And babies make 5! Proud momma to Anneliese Maeve, Seamus Roland, Scarlett Eloise and two on the way :)

It's a surname, ultimately from old Norman/French origin, meaning "fair/ beautiful friend".It's not used as a given name in France at all, but if anything it should be male since the phrase "bel ami" is masculine. "Belle amie" (Belleamie?) would be the feminine equivalent.

The -y spelling wouldn't happen in French, where it would be ami for a boy and amie for a girl, though to my knowledge it isn't used there as a given name. It is a surname in English.I've only met one Bellamy, and she was a girl.Belle is 'beautiful' in French, Beau for a boy. Amy, amie, ami would mean 'friend' or 'beloved', so the meaning is good!
