enda
I am looking for the etymology of the name Enda. I met a gentleman with that name, and I began wondering what it means.
Thanks.

I recently met an Enda, too, who I am now trying hard to find. He wasn't very birdlike, though. I met him in Rome,
on Feb 2nd, in the middle of the night and now I can't remembere his name. So if anyone knows an Enda who
went to see the rugby match in Rome, please !! mail me!
All the best
Anna

Enda is an Irish name--it's an anglicization of the Irish name Éanna. Éanna is popularly defined as meaning "bird-like," stemming from the Irish word éan meaning "bird." It's origins may be much older than that, though. There were at least 2 St. Eannas--I think one is the patron of the Aran islands. The name Enda is more popula rin the west of Ireland, I think.

Thank you for your response. Funny thing, the meaning that you cited described the gentleman. (He was rather bird-like.)
