The name Rhode is clearly of ancient Greek origin and -correct me if I am wrong- firstly appears in Homers Iliad. The name derives from the ancient Greek word "RODON", (rose), which itself derives from the words "REEI ODME", 'flowing scent'. There were numerous names in ancient Greece with the prefix Rod- (rose), LGPN mentions 39 of them. The most famous bearer of the name in ancient Greece was the nymph RODE, daughter of APHRODITE and wife of APOLLON, who gave her name to the Greek island of Rhodes.
