Paridon
This name was somewhat popular in Halland (the area of Sweden I'm from) in the 19th century - oddly enough almost only there, 138 of the total 164 in the 1900 census were born in Halland - and I've been curious about it for a long time. I have reached the conclusion that its popularity was probably inspired by a Paridon Schuer, but I still wonder what the name's origin is. It seems it came to Sweden with the Dutchman Paridon van Hoorn in the early 17th century, and from Google I gather that Paridon or van Paridon is a Dutch surname, so I guess I should turn to the Netherlands for answers. Though it sounds more like it's from Greek mythology or something ... Does anyone know anything about this name?

The name Paridam, Pardam (with many variations) was used among the nobility of Mecklenburg and Pommern (an area in northern germany under heavy swedish influence) since the mediaeval ages. However, no explanation of the meaning of the name is known.
