Re: meaning of name
Actually, there is a Sanskrit word aNvI (retroflex N, long I) which is feminine of aNu meaning an atom. This feminine meaning "the small or precise one" was an epithet of fingers used to press the sacred juice out for ceremonial purposes. This could be the origin of the name, but it is more likely that it is a name patterned after names like tanvI as I stated in the other post.Of course aNu is an epithet of shiva, one of the Hindu trinity, so one can say the feminine must be the epithet of his wife Parvati. To my knowledge it has never been used in that sense.
