Diccionario etimologico comparado de los apellidos Espanoles, Hispanoamericanos y Filipinos by Gutierre Tibon says that Morentin is a Spanish surname which comes from the name of a town in Navarre (Navarra). The original meaning of the place name is not given in that book.
