South Russia? Mennonite?
I am wondering about the naming trends in South Russia in the 1800's? I ask because I have two Mennonite families in my ancestry living there at that time who named all their sons with their middle name being the fathers first name, and naming all their daughters with their middle name being a simple initial which is also the initial of their father. Is this typical of the time, culture, or region? Or does this just seem like something confined to my family? For example:Johann Peter
DS: Deitrich Johann
DD: Maria J

Im not sure about Mennonites in Russia, but we have some Russian friends (second generation in America) who still follow the tradition of giving a child his/her fathers first name as a middle name. Even for girls for example our friends name is Mary middle name William.
