Anyone know where I can find resources for Choctaw names?
They're marginal amounts, but I have Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Cherokee in my blood and have wanted to get more in touch with those aspects of my heritage. There's more Chickasaw and Cherokee than Choctaw, but they're not traceable because no one in my family talked about it back then (what a shame that they were ashamed). I can, however, trace the Choctaw and have been interested in the culture, particularly names. For years now, I wanted to get a Choctaw name instead of, say, a Catholic name, but I've _found precious little information about Choctaw names online: etymology, how they're chosen/acquired, etc. If you know anything and could point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it!Mel Finefrock

You could maybe look at Chocktaw census/genealogy records for inspiration, though I'd think the way to learn more Choctaw names would be to learn more about the Choctaw language. Same thing with Chickasaw or Cherokee. Omniglot.com might be a pretty good starting place.http://www.omniglot.com/writing/choctaw.htmhttp://mike-boucher.com/wordpress/?page_id=201http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/choctaw-tribe.htm
