Aris (1) - Greek
Hey All,
The origin of this name is Greek (Like They Said).
But the name...
Actually Means Intelligent.
A famous Bearer would be Aristotle.
This name IS Aristotle but Shortened.
Is Masculine But could be Female.
I have only found one female bearer and a handful of males (The name is not common).
Hope this helps!

Phronesis and éxypnos are Greek words for intelligence. What makes you think that Aris is Greek for intelligence? I agree with you that Aris probably does not have the same root as Ares as this site maintains. It could be that Aris comes from αριστος (aristos) "best."

Actually, Aris is the common transliteration of the Modern Greek pronunciation of Ares. The Greek spelling is the same, but it's transliterated differently in Roman characters because Modern Greek is not the same as Ancient Greek.

On what basis do you determine that Aris means "intelligent"? The fact that Aristotle was intelligent has no bearing, although that is the common methodology behind many spurious name meanings.
