Subject: The Use of "ings" In a Name
Author: Campbell   (Authenticated as Campbell_H)

I know a girl named Hastings and a boy named Hawking. I was wondering what the "ings" meant in their names. I have a little bit of an idea, but I'm not quite sure. You see, the last name Hawkins means "little hawk", so I guessed that Hawkings would mean something along those lines because the endings are so alike.

I haven't seen "ing" used much as an ending in first names, and there were none here on the database that I could find.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
