I'm not sure whether this has anything to do with your discussion, but this is what I found:

Some people seem to associate DAMON with the Greek word "daimon" ("devine being, fate") which on the threshold to modern times was identified with the Jewish-Christian idea of Satan. I found this in Knaurs Buch der Vornamen. Most others though (like this site) give a different explanation of the name.
