Credence?
Hi!I heard the name Credence in Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them. I want to use it for a story, but my story takes place during the American civil war and I can't find the origins for Credence. Was it used during the civil war? Thanks!"They can say they can say it all sounds crazy. They can say they can say I lost my mind. I don't care I don't care if they call us crazy."

If it was a Puritan name...I don't think that many Puritan names were still in use by the time of the American Civil War. I have noticed on genealogical records that some Puritan names did survive into the 1700s and sometimes even the early 1800s, but Credence seems to have been extremely rare.If you're going to use it, it would probably make more sense on an elderly character than a young one. During the American Civil War, there were plenty of old people born in the late 1700s who were still alive. Someone born in 1780 would have been 81 at the war's start and 85 at the war's end. I guess it could work for a character's grandparent or great-grandparent.

Hi Phantom !!!I think that Credence comes from 1500s or 1600s but I'm not so sure. Anyway it seems a Puritan name so I guess that it was used also in 1800s.

It's a religious virtue name, like Charity or Mercy. It means faith or belief.
