Sawsan means 'lily, iris, pancratium, and other similar flowers' in Arabic (Only 'the vulgar' among the Arabs pronounce it 'Susan', according to Lane's Lexicon). It is an Arabic word with Persian origins ('Susan'). The 'ou' for 'w' is typical for North Africa.
