A Pronunciation Question

How do you pronounce the name Mireille? I was thinking meer-ee-EL, but the fact that the e is before the i threw me a little.

Also, do you think the spelling Miriel (prn. MEER-ee-el) could be considered a legitimate variant, or would it have to be Mireil?

It's French, and is pronounced Meer-AY. I'm not sure if Miriel is really a variant of it, since Mireille comes from Mireio and Miriel is either from Tolkien or a variant of Muriel. I could be wrong, though!
