Selwyn misquoted himself. He meant to say:

He took from the rich
And gave to the poor,
And thus shall Gore
Be heard no more.

And he hasn't been...

Let's not forget that "Robin " was originally a variant of "Robert ", and therefore a GUY'S name. It's got nothing to do with fluffy birds of the genus "Turdus" or their unrelated UK counterparts.
