Meave?
The database gives Meave as an alternative spelling of Maeve (which is the form I'm used to); it is also the version used by the wife of Richard Leakey, who appears to be English rather than Irish.Does anyone know whether Meave is pronounced like Maeve, or if the spelling might perhaps reflect something more like "meev" than "mayv"? There is no indication of any pronunciation for Meave in the database ...

Nope - Maeve, Meave, Meabh, Meadhbh - all pronounced MAYV. :)

Thanks! So the -ea- version is closer to the Irish original. Most interesting! And another victory for Hibernian phonetics ... which I sometimes think got specially designed to confuse the rest of us ...
